Meet Penelope Ann!

What a week it has been having Penny home!! As most of you know, Penny didn't come before June 12th on her own as we had hoped!! So we went to the hospital the morning of June 12th to be induced.  Surprisingly I got a good night's rest, woke at 4:30 am and had a light breakfast. We dropped of Elijah with his Aunt Ashley, and made our way to the hospital. It was hard to think that in a matter of hours I would begin a new experience, and be on a new adventure with my husband! We enjoyed our drive over to Evanston, the sun was shining, we jammed to our favorite tunes, and talked about how excited we were to meet Penelope. :O)
I was scheduled to be at the hospital at 7:30am. Once everything was all set in place and ready, Jamie gave me a blessing, and we settled  in to be induced. They started my pitocin at 9:30am, shortly after that, my doctor came in and broke my water. Man was that a relief of some pressure! I still was in awe that this was all really happening. I kept looking over at Jamie, and we just kept smiling at one another. After my water was broken, it was just a waiting game for the contractions to kick in. I had an EFM( External Fetal Monitor) internally. They wanted to do the in womb heart monitoring for Penny since I was a VBAC (vaginal birth after cesarean). That way they would know right away if anything wasn't going like it should with her.

It took a couple of hours before I finally started to feel some strong ones.Ive heard from just about everyone that they feel like menstural cramps. Too me it feels more like gas cramps! Pretty much identical really! As they started to come stronger and more often, I decided I was done laying in bed. So I got up and was able to walk around a bit, rock in a rocking chair, rock on a birthing ball, or just stand, and bend over the bed. It felt good to have choices, and be able to move freely from one thing to another as my contractions begun to get stronger. Jamie and I were still talking up a storm about this and that. Don't really remember now. We ended up playing a game, "guess the pressure of that contraction" since I was being monitored internally, the pressure reading of my contractions were right on. Jamie would watch the monitor, and then ask me what the pressure of that contraction was. I was usually close to dead on. It wasn't long though (when the pressure reading was around 86) that, that game began to SUCK, and I didn't even want him talking to me through a contraction haha.

I labored naturally for 12 hours. Until my cervix got to 7cm. Then the doctor came in, and decided he would try to help things along, and he tried to stretch my cervix. Which was quite painful!!! After he stretched my cervix, things started to go down hill a bit. Penny and I were in distress. Her heart rate dropped, and my contractions started to really take the life out of me. I was then confined to the bed, laying my left side. They told me I could no longer walk, rock, bounce or stand. Laying there made my contractions feel even worse, and made me more tired. I decided to get the demerol to take the edge off, and it worked like a charm! Then I really began to just put things in perspective, and I decided to just have the epidural. Even though I couldn't feel my contractions as intense. I was just really ready to relax. I knew I was almost there, but at this point I was so exhausted! The epidural worked great, I had a walking epidural. Even though they kept me confined to the bed. If Penny's heart rate got stable, they would then allow me to walk with support, and use my birthing ball and other tools to labor.

Penny's heartrate still wouldn't level out, without me staying in one position. So they stopped by pitocin. Which really sucked, because once she was finally level, and they started again, it took my contractions forever it seemed to kick in. I was at an 8 for about 2 hours. Once I was at a 9, the doctor came in to check again, and he helped my cervix stretch to a 10. This time I felt nothing, ha, it was quite nice! He then told us that we were ready to push. I couldn't believe it. It was a weird feeling, it was all just so sudden! Penny was now 1 week and 1 day over due. I had tried everything in the book to kick start a natural labor, and here I was laboring for 13 and a half hours. It felt like I would never meet my little Penelope. Now all of a sudden it was time? Could it be!? The doctor then told the nurse to grab my left leg, he turned over to Jamie, and told him to grab my right. I had some brief instructions on how to push.

Then we started. I pushed for and hour and a half. It was the most exhausting part of my entire labor. I had an oxygen mask on for Penny, and it made me closterphobic, so between pushes, I had to pull off the mask and breathe deep for myself a couple breathes, then put it back on and steady my breathing for Penny. It was incredible having my husband right there encouraging me, I knew he would be amazing at this part. He truly was. I could tell he was a little nervous now and again. It was because between pushes I would lay back, eyes closed, and didn't say a word. To me everthing was really calm and peaceful. Jamie didn't know what to think, until he asked me. I reassured him I was doing great, just tired, and needed to revamp for the next push. My epi wore off at about the time I started to push. Which was awesome, because I still couldn't feel anything but after an hour of pushing, I was finally able to feel my contractions, and was able to work with them. They didn't hurt, I could just feel the sensation. That is when things really progressed. I perked up, and had more energy. I could tell she was getting close, Jamie kept telling me how much hair she had. Finally after a few big successful pushes her head was out. The doctor then said he just needed to get her shoulder out, right after he said that, it was meerly seconds, and she was in my arms, on my chest. Her little eyes were open and she was looking right at me. It was the most incredible and beautiful moment ever. I was overwhelemed with emotion. I had actually done it. She was finally here..all 6lbs 6 oz, and 19 inches of her!! Welcome to the world Penelope Ann!!! Mommy and daddy love you!

Week 41 THE END!

41 weeks!!
Tomorrow marks my milestone for week 41 of pregnancy!! That is 10 months and 1 week. WOWZA! Today is my last day of pregnancy!! Looking forward to meeting Penelope Ann tomorrow. We will be inducing labor at 7:30 am. The past couple of days I have been having some crampy contractions, but still nothing intense. I am eager to find out if they have been doing anything! My mother always never knew when she was in labor until she was dilated to about 7 cm!! With me she was literally sitting on my head in the car on the way to the hospital, my younger sister Katie Mae she was overdue with. Went in at 42 weeks to be induced. When we got there she was in transition!! She had Katie within the hour!

It's crazy how each and every woman is different with pregnancy, and labor. I just love hearing every ones experiences!

I have been feeling rather great still. Just tired here and there towards the evenings. I have been taking it pretty easy the past few days. I was admitted into the hospital the other night with high blood pressure. I had an extremely bad headache for most of the day, and nothing would make it subside. So I then decided I had better call my doctor before he closed for the evening. I called at about 4:30, Jamie had left for work and took Elijah up to gma and gpa's house, so I could get some rest. The doctor told me to take my bp, and call them back with the results.

So I called my friend Stephanie, and she took me over to the grocery store so I could get my bp taken at the pharmacy. I took it 4 times. It was surely high! 150/94 was my average. I have never in my life been over 120/80. I called my doctor back, and they told me to come in immediately. I had to call Jamie who was almost at work, and have him turn around, then I had to get ah old of my sister in law, and get our game plans rolling to take Elijah for the night.

It was nerve wracking. I didn't know what to expect at this moment. Were we gonna have a baby? Were they going to induce me tonight? Were they going to do a cesarean? Jamie gave me a blessing, and I felt at ease right away. They hooked me up to all the standard machines, took my blood, and started me an IV in case we had to have the baby that night. I still had high blood pressure and Penelope's heart rate was high. Around 180 Jamie and I sat and talked and laughed, while watching a couple episodes of "Friends" . Jamie kept saying they were going to send us home.

I was popping out contractions like it was cool. About every 3 minutes, but they weren't painful. They just really made me have to urinate like NO OTHER! They just weren't long or strong enough to be doing much. I dilated about 1/2 a cm while we were there. If I had made significant progress we would have stayed overnight. We were admitted about 7:30pm, and had our results around 10:30. Everything came back normal. My bp had lowered to normal, and Penny's heartrate had gone back down to normal as well.
Love these peachy orange flowers!

We were released with a clean bill of health that evening! We celebrated with some ice cream, and headed home. I have felt back to normal since then. However it has been super hard to sit still. The doctors and nurses told me to take it easy, and watch my bp. It seems that being on my feet easily gets my contractions going, and they tend to get stronger quite easily. So I sat still pretty well for 2 days. Kind of??...lol I'm not very good at the whole sitting thing. Today I worked in my yard a while. Had to plant some more flowers ;O) I just love this time of year.

My pumpkins, watermelon and Strawberries!
Working in the yard is by far one of my favorite things to do! I certainly get it from my mother! I do intend to take the rest of the day easy, I'm not even going to COOK! Can't believe the day is almost to a close..Ill be seeing you SOON PENNY!!

Today is my DUE DATE!!! 40 Weeks Pregnant!

40 weeks!
Well here we are at week number 40!!!! Today is my due date.... and Penelope Ann has not arrived! We went in bags packed to my Dr. this morning to have a checkup, and do a non stress stress test. Penelope passed with flying colors. Heart beat was outstanding. We then checked my fluid, and she has PLENTY of fluid in her lil home as well! She is certainly not ready to come out. I am okay with that. I am anxious to see the little tyke, but she just isn't ready!
39 weeks!
Other than that my appointment showed that I had lost 2 lbs, this past week, and I haven't progressed with my cervix. It's opening, but not enough to even scrape my membranes!! Not that effacement and dilation even mean anything. People can walk around at a 5 for weeks, and NOTHING. People can have NOTHING for WEEKS, and BOOM..dilate like it's cool and have a baby in a matter of hours.

Since there was no need for induction today, we will wait ONE more week. If labor doesn't jump start on it's own, then we will induce next Tuesday morning June 12th @ 7:30am!
I have had so many people tell me how sorry they are that I am going over my due date. I find it silly. I'm in no pain or discomfort. Still running, lifting weights, boxing, pilates, yoga, etc etc.. You name it I am doing it. I feel pretty darn fabulous. I just have the occasional tiredness!

This past week has been a little hectic. Elijah broke his leg. He was dinking around on the couch with dad, and twisted his foot, and fell off the couch. The fall isn't what broke him, it was the twisting action on the couch we presume. He has been a trooper, and has been walking on it for a couple of days now.

It is so hard and sad to see your baby hurt like this! My baby boy!! It was just in time too, dad had to go on graves, and so I was left tending to Elijah all day and night, with a little break from dad once he woke up in the afternoon to get ready to go to work. The first 3 days were kinda tough. I tried to keep us busy. The tough part was Elijah whining, and needing to be carried EVERYWHERE. I mean I work out daily, and do all sorts of vigorous exercises, but having to carry around almost and extra 50lbs between Penny in my belly, and Elijah on my hip...it was exhausting!!
His awesome camo cast!
So thankful his cast is waterproof, it has been SO NICE to not have to worry about keeping my Critter clean!!

I have honestly been trying every trick in the book to induce this labor..And zilch!!! My neighbor came over the other day flabbergasted that I was mowing the lawn. She said I was crazy. LOL mowing the lawn is a piece of cake compared to most of my workouts I have been doing throughout my whole pregnancy!! It's just walking back and forth really haha. I don't even recall breaking much of a sweat. Maybe because of the heat..but that is about it!

I am extremely thankful and feel truly blessed to have had such another amazing pregnancy. I feel very ready, and confident to have Penelope! So excited to see what labor is like, and to potentially experience a natural birth. She is currently weighing in at around 6.5 lbs. A whole pound more than Elijah was when he was born ( he was a Cesarean due to being breech, and not being able to turn during the ECV. and taken at 37 weeks.) So I very well could be having around a 7lb baby give or take!! That is odd for me to think about LOL.

Hope to see you soon Penny!! Mommy, daddy, and big brother Elijah are so eager to meet you sweet girl!!!

Week 38 and Counting!

37 weeks 1 day!
Still pregnant! All 38 weeks of me, but not for long I presume! Saturday was a pretty awesome day. Can't remember the last day that really wasn't actually! I feel very blessed to have felt so amazing through this pregnancy. I did get hit with some fatigue the past few weeks. I had plenty of down days, just spent relaxing, reading a book, playing with Elijah outdoors and lounging around.

It has been nice for a change. I am quite a busy girl. I like it that way too. I really enjoy always having a task, chore, errand, craft, or home improvement project to do! At first when the fatigue hit I was a bit miserable. I missed going to the gym, and my at home workouts just don't do me justice I feel. I at least had jogging outdoors with Summit! The only downside was after my morning workout I was beat! And it literally zapped my energy for the rest of the day. So I cut back on cardio, and upped my pilates, and yoga. It helped a lot, but I missed my daily running routine!

Elijah helping mom and dad prep the vegetable garden
The past week has been good with my energy levels. They have seemed to come back to normal. Most likely because of my hormones I think? Getting ready to have this baby!! Penelope will be here literally any day now. It's very exciting to think about!

I got a lot of work done in the yard yesterday. I decided it was time to get rid of a lilac bush that Jamie and I had always talked about cutting down. We love lilac bushes, however this one was in the way of my up and coming vegetable garden! Good thing we have 2 lilac bushes in the yard. It would have been really sad, I love keeping fresh lilac in the house during the season!

Jamie woke to me taking a the chainsaw to the bush in the early A.M. He came out and asked what I was doing. I told him. "Prepping my vegetable garden!" He said "OK, just don't cut off your leg." Then he went back inside and him and Elijah apparently watched me finish the job. He told me later it was enjoyable watching his wife do something like that. It made him proud. :O)
Goodbye Lilac Bush!
We spent the day running errands, doing yard work and going to a birthday party for our sweet niece Paige. I was literally on my feet, hands and knees all day. Played basketball with the nephews, ran around in the yard blowing bubbles with all our nieces and nephews. Walking around the mall, and home depot, digging out lilac bush roots, shoveling dirt and weeding in my vegetable garden. There were a couple of times when I was pulling up roots that I literally though Penny was gonna pop RIGHT out of me! She didn't though!

After we called it a day, Jamie wanted to go mountain biking. I was all game to go. But he thought it best for me to stay home and relax. Good thing I did. He came home drenched in sweat, and so sore beyond belief! Guess Ill have to hit that trail after Penny is born! ;O) I don't think I would have survived!

Playing with Earthworms!
I didn't have a problem with the high amount of activity yesterday as most people would have thought. I felt great, slept great, and woke up early feeling great! Ready to do it all over again!

I did have some more sign this morning about Penny's arrival! So I know that those contractions yesterday from all the activity must have been doing something!!? 16 days left until my due date. I wonder when she will make her debut!?!?

On another note! Our family hit a milestone on May 18th!! It was our sweet Summit Boy's birthday!! He turned the big 4!!! What an amazing dog he has been in our lives. Great Danes make GREAT companions! Elijah and him are the best of buds. Our family would not be complete without him!!!

Happy Birthday Sir Admiral Ullr Summit!

Pumpkin Quinoa Bars

A friend of mine asked me if I had a recipe for a Quinoa Protein Bar. These are delish! Having trouble finding the original site I adapted this recipe from, and I wanted to pin it! So here it is. Enjoy!

Pumpkin Quinoa Protein Bars

Part one:
(1 cup) uncooked quinoa
2 cups water

Part two:
(1/2 cup) fresh pumpkin meat ( canned will work just fine, however fresh meat is tastier!!)
  1/2 cup water

Part three:
1/3 cup + 1-2 tbsp dark brown sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp ground ginger
1/4 tsp freshly grated nutmeg
1/2 - 3/4 tsp sea salt
(1/4 cup) flax egg

Part four:
1-2 tbsp pepitas (seeds from squash)

Cook the quinoa (after rinsing it). I used the method in which you boil the quinoa and the water for 5 minutes, then turn off the heat, cover it, and let it sit for 15 minutes.

Preheat oven to 325 degrees F.

Combine half of the quinoa and the pumpkin purée in the bowl of your food processor. Pulse on low and slowly stream in the water, then gradually bring it up to high speed. It will be tough to purée quinoa, because it's very gummy and glutinous, but be patient and keep working it and it'll come out fine!

Dump in a large bowl, and then add all of part three, along with the rest of the quinoa. Mix well, give it a taste and adjust any of the seasonings or sugar to your liking.

Scrape into a well-greased 8x8" baking dish (I baked it in a larger dish and I found it a bit too thin to handle well). Smooth out so it's level, and then sprinkle the pepitas over the top. Bake for 40-50 minutes or until the top is dry and doesn't give in when you press gently on it, then cool for an hour (you can put it on a plate and then leave it in the fridge uncovered to speed up the process). Then cut into as many bars as you want. I cut them into 16 because they're pretty densely packed with nutrients and fiber and protein, so a little should be enough!

Time to Play Catch Up!!

8 Months Pregnant
Yes I haven't posted since JANUARY! Everyone falls off the blogosphere now and again! The past 3 months have been crazy!! What HAVEN'T we been up to?

My pregnancy has gone rather amazing. So thankful to have felt the way I have been feeling. I did run into a few bumps in the road. 1: Being my lower back. I didn't have any issues with it until I went into the Chiropractor! I setup an appointment to have the Webster's Technique done, to ensure that Penelope had enough room to turn. The Dr. noticed my sacrum was a little out, so he adjusted that as well. Since the relaxin hormone from my pregnancy had well kicked in, my adjustment wouldn't hold, and my back kept going out!! It was horrible! After a few adjustments though I was back to
running on the treadmill!

8 ½ months
2. As of most recent I went into preterm labor! 33 weeks pregnant I began to have Braxton Hicks contractions in the car dealership. I figured it was nothing, probably just from the excitement of buying a new vehicle, and being on my feet all day. Well after 3 days they didn't stop! Nothing would settle them down. They just gradually got stronger (not painful), they were consistent and forming a pattern. I was having about 5-7 every hour.
The belly and all it's glory @ 8 ½ months!

I called my OB to see if this was normal, being I never even felt a BHC with Elijah. They got me in, and took a look. I ended up having a bladder infection that caused me to start contracting. I dilated only to 1cm, so that was good! I was given antibiotics to clear up the infection, and stop the contractions within a couple of days. Worked wonders! Minus the horrible heart palpitations, and tiredness the meds gave me!! The Dr said I can resume regular exercise asap, just to pay attention to my body. I have really laid off my cardio though. It seems that I have BHC just going up stairs, or playing outside in the yard with Elijah and Summit. Im sure it is just my body prepping, but it's new to me, and I am afraid of going into labor early again!

I am now a little over 8 ½ months. 40 days to go!! Crazy to think about!!!!!! I'm getting really excited about meeting Penelope Ann! She has since turned head down! Which is awesome, but also a bit nerve wracking!!! One step closer to having a vaginal birth after a c section!! The only other thing that needs to happen to ensure a vaginal birth is to go into labor naturally. My Dr won't induce on a VBAC, to keep the added stress from the contractions off of the previous incision. I'm really hoping for a natural birth! Anxious to see how this journey will pan out!

As for the excitement I mentioned above about buying a new vehicle..that is right..I traded in the FJ Cruiser!! Something we weren't planning on doing for a little while longer. Besides, after the 4th time of buying me a vehicle...it was Jamie's turn to get his truck! Well we ended up doing just that! Jame got his truck too! I thought I would miss the FJ- afterall it was my dream vehicle forever!! I don't though..this Acadia is my dream vehicle!! :O)
Our New Family Car out at the Lake!
Jamie's New Truck!
For our family vehicle we went with the 2012 GMC Acadia. Now I can really talk up a storm about the Acadia. Let me sum it up for you. Seats 8, AWD, 20/26 MPG, Fully loaded with headed seats, tri climate control, moon roof, and sun roof, DVD, bose system, XM, bluetooth, and a PLETHORA of other gadgets! 3rd row seating is comfortable for adults, and even with it up, has the most cargo room out of any suv, both midsized and large sized. Yes more room than an expedition, and yukon. In fact overall, the cubic feet of the Acadia is just 2 cubic ft LESS than the GMC Yukon! Hard to believe but it is true! We are so overwhelmingly happy with the purchase. We have been test driving, and searching for the perfect family car with all these features FOR MONTHS, without having to go to a minivan to get it!! Quite honestly this is it ladies and gentlemen!

5 days later we bought Jamie his truck. Something we didn't intend to do. But our car dealer knew what we wanted in a truck, and he found it! It was pretty incredible actually. We upgraded Jamie from a 2007 Chevy Silverado extended cab work truck edition to a 2011 Chevy Silverado crew cab LT.

Jame is pretty happy with all the features of his truck! Even gets much better gas mileage because it has flex fuel. Going from the extended cab to a crew cab has been nice. So much more room in the back! So having the kids back there is so much more convenient!

As for other events in our timeline...EASTER! Easter was great, it was so fun to watch Elijah able to hunt for eggs all by himself for the 1st time!!! He was so excited to see what was inside of all his eggs! He enjoyed coloring eggs as well. And seriously the most amazing thing of all...he LOVED the Easter Bunny!!! He couldn't get enough of him! He didn't like Santa at all this past Christmas, but you put a person in an animal suit, and he goes NUTS. We took him to go see Cat In The Hat over the month of March for Dr. Seuss's Birthday, and he loved him too!! So darling!

Summit the Easter Bunny, tired after "laying" all those eggs! ;O)

Elijah and the Easter Bunny!
This kid loved Cat in the Hat!
Dr. Seuss Cupcakes I made for our Dr. Seuss Parties!!
My lil Thing 1 tasting cotton candy for the first time!

Other than all of this it has just been pretty steady. Jamie has been going to school for his Foreman's Certificate, he takes his text next week for that! He recently took his other test through work for his grade 4 pay. He passed! It is a VERY nice raise in pay!! If he passes this Foreman's test it will be another big raise!

I have been finishing up my cake classes. As much as I love them, I am looking forward to being done and getting certified as a Wilton Cake Instructor! It takes a lot to prep each week, whilst being pregnant, and having a toddler to chase after!!

It's A Girl!!!

Broke the Castillon Tradition on this one!!  Can you believe it? It took us a couple of days, but it has sunk in...a sweet, precious, little baby GIRL!!

As most of you know at my initial appointment to find out the gender, littlER critter wouldn't open those legs! The Dr. didn't even have a guess! I wasn't really upset, just anxious!! After all it was just so exciting to see the baby moving around in there!! I would have had to have waited another month to find out the gender, and by this time I just wanted to know!

So I immediately called fetal photos in Green River, and setup an appointment for the following evening to try again. Finding out the gender with baby number 2 was completely different than with Elijah for some reason. Jamie and I had told our friends and family we were rooting for a boy again. Girls kind of freak us out! ;O)

However when we discussed getting pregnant this time around, and all throughout this pregnancy thus far we have talked privately about our hopes also for a girl. We have been so back and forth on it! We have never discussed wanting a girl like we have this time around.

So I don't get why I was so nervous at this appointment?  I was going to be happy either way right!? 5 minutes into the ultrasound there was a glimpse! The tech said I'm pretty sure that was a girl. My eyes immediately weld up with tears...I felt relief, excitement, astonishment, and unbelief. We got 5 great looks at HER, she was definitely a girl!!!

I went home and just stared at my pictures, wanting to scream it to the top of the world, that we were going to have a GIRL!!! I just couldn't believe we were going to have a girl. I guess for some reason I thought because of this Castillon Tradition, that it just was not in the cards for us this time around?

Then my phone rings, and it is my husband. He wasn't able to come with me to my first appointment, nor was he going to be there for the checkup in February, so we decided to just have the ultrasound regardless without him. He was talking so fast, I could hardly process what I was about to tell him!

So what is it? What are we having? Did you find out? I excitedly told him that we were going to be blessed by our Heavenly Father with a sweet, precious, little baby girl. He paused for a moment.
"nu uh" he said, "are you serious?!"
"yes" I replied.
"for real you aren't joking around?"
"dead serious love, its a girl, we are having a GIRL!"

Jamie was as excited, but as baffled as I was.  He was home minutes later, and greeted me with a big pick me up hug with a twirl and a kiss, grabbed Elijah and explained to him how he was going to be a big brother of a sister!

He then wanted the proof, so we all sat and watched the dvd together, and looked over our photos of little miss critter! Jamie then told me how he felt that maybe he wanted a girl more than he led on, I agreed to that too :O) but I really think we would have been just as excited if it were a boy! I mean heck it is a baby, any parents would have been as excited either way right!?

As for names, we have been talking girl names for years. We have it narrowed down to 2! Penelope and Elliette (pronounced Elliot). As much as I loved Penelope for YEARS for EVER...I think we are actually leaning towards Elliette!! Ellie and Eli...doesn't get much cuter than that!!!!

Gaming: Children, and Ourselves.

We are all familiar with video games and Gaming- the act of playing games. I grew up with consoles my entire life. Atari, Nintendo, SNES, Gameboy, PS etc. I am a fan of video games myself. I have a passion for Mario, just take a look at my son Elijah's Nintendo Nursery.

So I guess I have been a gamer pretty much my whole life. However I do not play video games everyday..nor all day. My husband is a gamer too, he and I are on the same page about video games, but we really limit our time with them. We think they are a great pastime, but something to seriously be monitored. In reality there are far more important things for us to be doing than gaming all day.

We do have the occasional day here and there where we will game most of the day, but usually the weather is crummy, or we are taking a day for relaxing, we haven't played VG's for a few weeks, and all our chores and priorities are taken care of.

I have been thinking a lot about Elijah, and when we will let him begin gaming. My husband and I have been back and forth on this many times. Our agreement that is when he is able to actually play them, we figure 4ish? Now we won't let him sit down and play Modern Warfare no doubt. I am so thankful for our PS3 Motion, and Xbox 360 Kinect. Keep the kid more active and obviously non violent!!! Games like Disney Adventures, Sesame Street Once Upon a Monster, those are the games we will let him play, and with US no doubt! It would be such a fun and active pastime.

While some parents worry about whether playing video games is good for young children ( I being one of them!), I think that gaming — when properly supervised and balanced with other activities — can be a great pastime not only for kids but for parents' relationship with their kids.

Lately when my husband decides it's time to relax and play a VG, he plays once Elijah is in bed. Very rarely do we play a video game when Elijah is there to watch ( unless its an active kinect game where he sees us jumping and crouching about). My husband feels that it is in our children's best interest. I agree whole heartily with that. We don't only monitor our VG time but our television watching time, especially with Elijah, about 2-3 hours for him, breaking it up into morning afternoon and evening if possible.

I have seen quite a few families actually have really big issues over video games, Elder David A. Bednar said the following:

"Consider again the example I mentioned earlier of a young couple recently married in the house of the Lord. An immature or misguided spouse may devote an inordinate amount of time to playing video games, chatting online, or in other ways allowing the digital to dominate things as they really are. Initially the investment of time may seem relatively harmless, rationalized as a few minutes of needed relief from the demands of a hectic daily schedule. But important opportunities are missed for developing and improving interpersonal skills, for laughing and crying together, and for creating a rich and enduring bond of emotional intimacy. Progressively, seemingly innocent entertainment can become a form of pernicious enslavement."

After all these things AREN'T BAD! But something we feel need to be strongly monitored, and not just with our child/ and future children, but with OURSELVES even as adults!!

Elder David A. Bednar of the Quorom of the 12 Apostles talk "Things as They Really Are" found in the JUNE 2010 ENSIGN... I truly believe he hit the nail on the head with this one, in part of his talk he says:

( yes this is a bit lengthy, but you should really read EVERY word of this part of his talk..it doesn't just pertain to VG's but all social networks, online technology etc..very good food for thought!!)
"For example, all of us can find enjoyment in a wide range of wholesome, entertaining, and engaging activities. But we diminish the importance of our bodies and jeopardize our physical well-being by going to unusual and dangerous extremes searching for an ever-greater and more exhilarating adrenaline “rush.” We may rationalize that surely nothing is wrong with such seemingly innocent exploits and adventures. However, putting at risk the very instrument God has given us to receive the learning experiences of mortality—merely to pursue a thrill or some supposed fun, to bolster ego, or to gain acceptance—truly minimizes the importance of our physical bodies.

Sadly, some young men and young women in the Church today ignore “things as they really are” and neglect eternal relationships for digital distractions, diversions, and detours that have no lasting value. My heart aches when a young couple—sealed together in the house of the Lord for time and for all eternity by the power of the holy priesthood—experiences marital difficulties because of the addicting effect of excessive video gaming or online socializing. A young man or woman may waste countless hours, postpone or forfeit vocational or academic achievement, and ultimately sacrifice cherished human relationships because of mind- and spirit-numbing video and online games. As the Lord declared, “Wherefore, I give unto them a commandment … : Thou shalt not idle away thy time, neither shalt thou bury thy talent that it may not be known” (D&C 60:13).

You may now be asking yourself, “But, Brother Bednar, you began today by talking about the importance of a physical body in our eternal progression. Are you suggesting that video gaming and various types of computer-mediated communication can play a role in minimizing the importance of our physical bodies?” That is precisely what I am declaring. Let me explain.

We live at a time when technology can be used to replicate reality, to augment reality, and to create virtual reality. For example, a medical doctor can use software simulation to gain valuable experience performing a complicated surgical operation without ever putting a human patient at risk. A pilot in a flight simulator repeatedly can practice emergency landing procedures that could save many lives. And architects and engineers can use innovative technologies to model sophisticated design and construction methods that decrease the loss of human life and damage to buildings caused by earthquakes and other natural disasters.

In each of these examples, a high degree of fidelity in the simulation or model contributes to the effectiveness of the experience. The term fidelity denotes the similarity between reality and a representation of reality. Such a simulation can be constructive if the fidelity is high and the purposes are good—for example, providing experience that saves lives or improves the quality of life.
Please notice the fidelity between the representation of reality in the computer rendering (page 26) and the reality of the completed room in the photograph on the next page.

In the example, high fidelity is employed to accomplish a most important purpose—the design and construction of a sacred and beautiful temple. However, a simulation or model can lead to spiritual impairment and danger if the fidelity is high and the purposes are bad—such as experimenting with actions contrary to God’s commandments or enticing us to think or do things we would not otherwise think or do “because it is only a game.”

I raise an apostolic voice of warning about the potentially stifling, suffocating, suppressing, and constraining impact of some kinds of cyberspace interactions and experiences upon our souls. The concerns I raise are not new; they apply equally to other types of media, such as television, movies, and music. But in a cyber world, these challenges are more pervasive and intense. I plead with you to beware of the sense-dulling and spiritually destructive influence of cyberspace technologies that are used to produce high fidelity and that promote degrading and evil purposes.

If the adversary cannot entice us to misuse our physical bodies, then one of his most potent tactics is to beguile you and me as embodied spirits to disconnect gradually and physically from things as they really are. In essence, he encourages us to think and act as if we were in our premortal, unembodied state. And, if we let him, he can cunningly employ some aspects of modern technology to accomplish his purposes. Please be careful of becoming so immersed and engrossed in pixels, texting, earbuds, twittering, online social networking, and potentially addictive uses of media and the Internet that you fail to recognize the importance of your physical body and miss the richness of person-to-person communication. Beware of digital displays and data in many forms of computer-mediated interaction that can displace the full range of physical capacity and experience.

In contrast, we need to heed the admonition of Paul: “That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour” (1 Thessalonians 4:4).

Consider again the example I mentioned earlier of a young couple recently married in the house of the Lord. Progressively, seemingly innocent entertainment can become a form of pernicious enslavement.

To feel the warmth of a tender hug from an eternal companion or to see the sincerity in the eyes of another person as testimony is shared—all of these things experienced as they really are through the instrument of our physical body—could be sacrificed for a high-fidelity fantasy that has no lasting value. If you and I are not vigilant, we can become “past feeling” (1 Nephi 17:45), as did Laman and Lemuel long ago.

Let me provide another example of disconnecting gradually and physically from things as they really are. Today a person can enter into a virtual world, such as Second Life, and assume a new identity. An individual can create an avatar, or a cyberspace persona, that conforms to his or her own appearance and behavior. Or a person can concoct a counterfeit identity that does not correlate in any way to things as they really are. However closely the assumed new identity approximates the individual, such behavior is the essence of things as they really are not. Earlier I defined the fidelity of a simulation or model. I now emphasize the importance of personal fidelity—the correspondence between an actual person and an assumed, cyberspace identity. Please note the lack of personal fidelity in the following episode as reported in the Wall Street Journal:

Ric Hoogestraat is “a burly [53-year-old] man with a long gray ponytail, thick sideburns and a salt-and-pepper handlebar mustache. … [Ric spends] six hours a night and often 14 hours at a stretch on weekends as Dutch Hoorenbeek, his six-foot-nine, muscular … cyber-self. The character looks like a younger, physically enhanced version of [Ric]. …

“… [He] sits at his computer with the blinds drawn. … While his wife, Sue, watches television in the living room, Mr. Hoogestraat chats online with what appears on the screen to be a tall, slim redhead.
“He’s never met the woman outside of the computer world of Second Life, a well-chronicled digital fantasyland. … He’s never so much as spoken to her on the telephone. But their relationship has taken on curiously real dimensions. They own two dogs, pay a mortgage together and spend hours [in their cyberspace world] shopping at the mall and taking long motorcycle rides. … Their bond is so strong that three months ago, Mr. Hoogestraat asked Janet Spielman, the 38-year-old Canadian woman who controls the redhead, to become his virtual wife.

“The woman he’s legally wed to is not amused. ‘It’s really devastating,’ says Sue Hoogestraat, … who has been married to Mr. Hoogestraat for seven months.”5

Brothers and sisters, please understand. I am not suggesting all technology is inherently bad; it is not. Nor am I saying we should not use its many capabilities in appropriate ways to learn, to communicate, to lift and brighten lives, and to build and strengthen the Church; of course we should. But I am raising a warning voice that we should not squander and damage authentic relationships by obsessing over contrived ones. “Nearly 40% of men and 53% of women who play online games said their virtual friends were equal to or better than their real-life friends, according to a survey of 30,000 gamers conducted by … a recent Ph.D. graduate from Stanford University. More than a quarter of gamers [who responded indicated that] the emotional highlight of the past week occurred in a computer world.”6

How important, how enduring, and how timely is the Lord’s definition of truth: “things as they really are.” The prophet Alma asked, “O then, is not this real?” (Alma 32:35). He was speaking of light and good so discernible they can be tasted. Indeed, “they who dwell in [the Father’s] presence … see as they are seen, and know as they are known, having received of his fulness and of his grace” (D&C 76:94).

My beloved brothers and sisters, beware! To the extent personal fidelity decreases in computer-mediated communications and the purposes of such communications are distorted, perverted, and wicked, the potential for spiritual disaster is dangerously high. I implore you to turn away immediately and permanently from such places and activities (see 2 Timothy 3:5).
Now I would like to address an additional characteristic of the adversary’s attacks. Satan often offers an alluring illusion of anonymity. Lucifer always has sought to accomplish his work in secret (see Moses 5:30). Remember, however, that apostasy is not anonymous simply because it occurs in a blog or through a fabricated identity in a chat room or virtual world. Immoral thoughts, words, and deeds always are immoral, even in cyberspace. Deceitful acts supposedly veiled in secrecy, such as illegally downloading music from the Internet or copying CDs or DVDs for distribution to friends and families, are nonetheless deceitful. We are all accountable to God, and ultimately we will be judged of Him according to our deeds and the desires of our hearts (see Alma 41:3). “For as [a man] thinketh in his heart, so is he” (Proverbs 23:7).

The Lord knows who we really are, what we really think, what we really do, and who we really are becoming. He has warned us that “the rebellious shall be pierced with much sorrow; for their iniquities shall be spoken upon the housetops, and their secret acts shall be revealed” (D&C 1:3).
I have raised a voice of warning about only a few of the spiritual hazards in our technologically oriented and rapidly changing world. Let me say again: neither technology nor rapid change in or of itself is good or evil; the real challenge is to understand both within the context of the eternal plan of happiness. Lucifer will encourage you to misuse and to minimize the importance of your physical body. He will attempt to substitute the monotony of virtual repetition for the infinite variety of God’s creations and convince us we are merely mortal things to be acted upon instead of eternal souls blessed with moral agency to act for ourselves. Deviously, he entices embodied spirits to forfeit the blessings and learning experiences “according to the flesh” (1 Nephi 19:6; Alma 7:12–13) that are made possible through the Father’s plan of happiness and the Atonement of His Only Begotten Son.
For your happiness and protection, I invite you to study more diligently the doctrine of the plan of salvation—and to prayerfully ponder the truths we have reviewed. I offer two questions for consideration in your personal pondering and prayerful studying:

1. Does the use of various technologies and media invite or impede the constant companionship of the Holy Ghost in your life?

2. Does the time you spend using various technologies and media enlarge or restrict your capacity to live, to love, and to serve in meaningful ways?
You will receive answers, inspiration, and instruction from the Holy Ghost suited to your individual circumstances and needs. I repeat and affirm the teaching of the Prophet Joseph: “All beings who have bodies have power over those who have not. The devil has no power over us only as we permit him.”

These eternal truths about the importance of our physical bodies will fortify you against the deception and the attacks of the adversary. One of my deepest desires for you is an ever-increasing testimony of and appreciation for the Resurrection—even your own resurrection with a celestial, exalted body “because of your faith in [the Lord Jesus Christ] according to the promise” (Moroni 7:41)."

Round 2!

Today I am 13 weeks and 3 days pregnant! This is when most people are announcing LOL. I have felt wonderful yet again this pregnancy! I did have a couple of days of nausea at about 9 weeks. Nothing too crazy though thank goodness! Other than that it has been business as usual, still running 3-4 days a week 3-4 miles +, boxing, kickboxing, yoga, pilates etc. It would be nice to keep this us like I did with Elijah! I have had more cravings this time around, but the biggest difference is the LACK of appetite. I actually lost 13lbs this 1st trimester, I just didnt want to eat really. Everything sounded good, but I wouldn't really eat a whole meal, I would get FULL so FAST! Felt like I was 8 months pregnant rather than a few weeks along!! My OB said that it was normal and not to worry, my appetite is slowly coming back, and I am gaining weight back!

I have been wondering when I was going to start showing this time, and the time is here! If you see me out and about you probably won't notice, you have to see the bare belly to see the bumpage, but it is coming in, and a couple of weeks earlier than Elijah this time too! I am so excited to go down this road again, I LOVED every second of my pregnancy with Elijah. I felt amazing, and was just very excited to be a mother. Now I will be a mother of 2!!! I will be a busy mom, my children will be 20 months apart!

Very excited to give my little critter another little critter to play with!!

No bones about it, we're PREGNANT!

Well here we go again! Elijah Ames is going to be a big brother, can you believe it!? Our family is very excited for our new addition!

We found out that I was pregnant the MORNING OF ELIJAH'S 1st BIRTHDAY!! Holy Toledo was that one heck of a day! It was very exciting! That same day I ordered this awesome iron on decal to announce our pregnancy for October (MY FAVORITE MONTH). I actually found it about a year ago, but there wasn't a need for it. I had a friend get pregnant a few weeks before me, and I told her she should buy it and announce this way, she by passed on the idea, so I took it on immediately. Such a fun and cute way to surprise our friends and family. Halloween has always been one of my favorite holidays, so this was perfect for us!
As of right now I am due June 5th, that puts me at 9 weeks. However when we went in, the baby was too small, and we could not measure, so we estimated my due date by my last cycle, I'm pretty sure it won't change much, but we go back in on November 7th for another ultrasound and measurement to get a solid due date. Can't wait to see my lil baby up on that screen again like we did with Elijah!
So far I have felt fabulous! No morning sickness thus far thank goodness, as was the same with Elijah. Hope it stays that way. I only felt tired the first couple of weeks. Then I got a cold, and that laid me out for a week, I seriously just slept all day every day! Thank goodness Elijah sleeps 12-14 hours straight through the night, this momma needed her rest. Now my cold is gone, and we are back to our crazy busy hectic schedules!
What is even MORE exciting about all of this is that I have 6 friends that are pregnant, and the furthest apart we are is 5 weeks! Pretty crazy, going to be so much fun !!

Happy Halloween!!!
Castillon style!!

Maple roasted sugar pumpkin, sage, and jack grilled cheese.

Totally a goodie for fall!

Take a sugar pumpkin destem, half, peel, and deseed.

Cut up into 1by1 pieces, add 2 tbs melted butter, and 1 tbs REAL PURE MAPLE syrup. Its a lot more expensive, but tastes so much better, especially when baking/roasting!

Place in a pan and top with fresh crushed black pepper (to taste)

You will also need fresh cut sage. 6 leaves coarsely chopped will do the trick.

For my bread I didn't use regular sandwich bread, I bought a fresh baked loaf of Italian rustic bread, very flavorful bread that is for sure!

Start grilling the bread, and add freshly grated Monterrey Jack cheese, top with roasted pumpkin, layered to fit the bread, then top with some sage, and add more grated cheese, then add your top piece of bread, and finish grilling. The pumpkin, maple, sage, and cheese is amazing flavor in your mouth! WOWZA!
